Committing the first airline to Tourism Declares with Regional Air

Why did you declare a climate emergency?

Regional Air and its East African group of airlines have always used our voices to unite our crew members, staff and the communities that we operate in. While we always strive to be a value-based airline, we also try to make changes that are authentic to us.

From these values, we feel our declaration provides an approach that will highlight the role of aviation in contributing to a sustainable future. We believe that is in not only the best interest of our customers, but also in the best interests for the sustainability of the aviation industry, to make amendments to our practices.

What would you say to other companies in your sector? Why should more aviation companies join this initiative?

We are entering a third age/era in the aviation industry where new architecture, advanced engine thermodynamic efficiencies, electric and hybrid electric propulsion, digitization, artificial intelligence and lighter materials are all being pushed to benefit the industry and sustainability as a whole. However, we feel the adaptation of these changes may be slow due to their dependency on coordinated support from policymakers, regulators and governments. Therefore we advise other companies to join this initiative with us, in the hopes to fast track these efforts through the five actions each signatory commit to.

We believe that aviation companies will see the benefit of committing to reducing their carbon emission through sharing approaches that will make air traffic management more efficient, and aircraft usage that is more fuel friendly.

Will you communicate the fact you have declared to your customers? What would you tell them?

Aviation connects our world and generates a rich cultural exchange. We feel everyone should be driven towards a sustainable future. We strongly believe that being part of our family as a customer provides an opportunity through this initiative to stand together as a global community and by us sharing our declaration through our website is the first step towards achieving this global effort.
